No one beats an eating disorder without eating disorder treatment. After all, an eating disorder is a disease, not a choice. You wouldn’t expect a cancer victim to get better without medical help. The same logic applies to eating disorder victims and eating disorder treatment. If you’re going to get better, it’s going to be because you find the courage to seek the care you need. Given the stakes, you simply can’t afford any other course of action.

The good news is that there are plenty of eating disorder treatment facilities in Los Angeles. The only catch is that they aren’t all equally capable of serving their clients. The best eating disorder treatment program is the one that recognizes your unique individual needs, and aims to help you get better on your own terms. That sort of attention to detail makes a world of difference. For your own sake, for the sake of the people who care about you, let today be the day you learn the truth for yourself.

Addiction intervention is a pre-planned attempt by one or many people (family, friends, co-workers, neighbors) to get the addict to seek professional intervention, treatment for addiction, enter a drug rehab, alcohol rehabilitation, eating disorder, mental health, or dual-diagnosis treatment center. Often interventions are held by family members and close friends and take place when other, more subtle approaches to getting help have been unsuccessful. Generally, there are two types of intervention – informal and formal.

An informal intervention is simply a conversation you might have with the person you are concerned about and sharing some of your observations, asking questions, and suggesting that (s)he seek qualified addiction treatment. Many informal interventions take place when a concerned friend, family member, or co-worker becomes concerned about an addict and does not want to include others at that time from fear of undesired tension between the addict and others. Informal interventions are a good way for a friend or co-worker to privately discuss their concerns with the addict without involving others. An informal intervention is most likely to have positive effects if it is well planned out in advance and takes place in a comfortable place when the addict is calm and sober.

Hell, even after Sylvie I didn’t know what it was. An eating disorder…what? I just remember how she would just eat so much shit and then disappear. What the hell was that? I used to do that, but when I disappeared I was going for the old number two. Sylvie, however, was going to puke her guts out to the best of her abilities. OUCH!! I remember the first time she forgot to lock the door and I walked in on her. The pain that she was obviously feeling was gut wrenching. I mean, how did all of that come out of little old Sylvie? I’ve never seen so much puke. And I used to work with kids, so I’ve seen a lot of puke. But puke like that, again I say, OUCH!!! Needless to say we had to get help for Sylvie and her eating disorder and we did. The counseling she’s been getting has really made a difference and we’re all confident that she’ll be okay. I hope so because if I ever see her puke like that again I may never be able to hold down another morsel.
